3 day workshop at a site near Woodland, in Yolo County.

Come learn about Natural Plasters at this 3 day workshop where we will apply clay and lime plasters on an existing straw bale structure (last year’s workshop building). We will review how the structure was built and then discuss natural plaster options, plastering materials and mixes, tools and techniques. We will review how to detail windows, doors, sills and other openings in preparation for plaster, as well as decorative features you can add to your project. You will receive hands-on experience applying the finish coats to the structure.

A mix of instruction time, hands-on experience and printed hand-outs will provide you with the basic knowledge of straw bale building and plasters for your own projects. In the evening, we will have photo presentations and discussion time.

The goal of the workshop is to accommodate every participant’s interest and skill level; you can expect to rotate through most aspects of the plastering activities, ensuring the broadest possible hands-on experience.

The lead instructor is Tracy Thieriot, a plastering contractor specializing in natural finishes http://www.tactileinc.com/. She will be assisted by other CASBA members experienced with natural plaster finishes.
