    9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Leader training presumes you will attend at least two workshop sessions to assist instructors with the Oct 13-15 workshop. You will be able to choose which ones.

3 day workshop October 13-15 in Eugene, Oregon (Leadership Training October 7 & 8)

The workshop will be a hands on experience that will allow you to participate in many aspects of straw bale construction from bale raising to the earth plastering. This large commercial building features straw bales placed on end (vertically) between standard 2x wood framing, with plywood on the exterior.

This will be a three day event; participation in the work shop will be broken into 4-hour segments. There will be a wide range of activities and you are welcome to join in on one or several sessions.

Instructors: The straw bale instructors are Jim Reiland of Many Hands Builders, and David Arkin and Anni Tilt. Jim is an Oregon-licensed contractor and CASBA advisory board member, and David and Anni are architects (Arkin Tilt Architects). David is the director of CASBA, and Anni is the principal architect for the Mahonia Building.  The clay plaster instructor is Erica Ann Bush of Day One Design. Erica is a designer and licensed contractor specializing in natural building, and builder of numerous natural homes and buildings throughout Oregon.

Leader Training: October 7th and 8th 9 am to 4pm

For those looking for a little more involvement beyond attending the workshop, we will be offering leadership training the prior weekend.

Following the two day course, you will be trained in all aspects of the bale raising process and able to assist instructors during the workshop. The general expectation is that graduates of the leadership training will assist in two or more work groups during the workshop.
