Come learn about Finish Plaster at this 2 day workshop. Learn how natural finishes can be used in remodels, conventional construction, as well as on straw bale walls. We will apply natural finish plasters and clay paint on various substrates including straw bale, drywall, and lathing at a home being renovated with natural materials at Wild and Radish Farm. Wild and Radish LLC is a sustainable, urban farm and Eco Village working on building diverse and multigenerational affordable housing on 13 acres in El Sobrante.
In this workshop, we will be mixing many different types of finish plasters and paints to apply to the interior and exterior of this straw bale wrapped ranch style house. Participants will get hands on experience applying the finish coat of clay plaster over the brown coat of clay plaster protecting the straw bales wrapped around the exterior of the building. We will also mix plaster to apply on traditional wood lath on the interior of the building. A few drywall interior walls will also get a coat of clay paint mixed on site.
The goal of the workshop is to provide a broad experience to beginning plasterers. A mix of instruction time and hands on experience will provide you with the basic knowledge of natural plasters and paints. Lunch time will allow for presentations and additional question/answer time.
The plastering instructor is Massey Burke. Massey is a professional natural plasterer and the co-director of CASBA with many years of natural plastering under her belt.
