Plaster Workshop Series

Brown Coat Plastering November 5-6 with instructor Allison Arnold

Join us to learn how to apply clay plaster. We will be plastering a pre-fabricated panelized straw bale house in Providence's South Side neighborhood. This two day workshop will focus on the brown coat layer of plastering and touch on the finish coat as well.

During this weekend we will apply the brown coat over the base coat of plaster.  We will also touch on the finish coat of plaster and some decorative techniques. A mix of instruction time and hands-on experience will provide you with the basic knowledge of clay plasters and how to apply them on straw bales walls and other surfaces. The goal of the workshop is to accommodate every participant’s interest and skill level. Each participant can expect to participate in the various aspects of the plastering process to ensure the broadest possible hands-on experience. Lunch time will allow for presentations and additional question-answer time.

Our host for the workshop is Jenna Yu, the designer/homeowner of this straw bale house. Plaster instructor, Allison Arnold, is a plasterer and builder as well as the current CASBA workshop coordinator.

Cost:  $100 each weekend . *Limited scholarships available upon request.

Accommodations:  Pack a lunch for yourself each day. (Additional snacks and beverages will be provided.) The workshops will begin at 10 am and end each day at 4pm. There are bathrooms located on site. Site location, driving instruction and other information are provided with confirmation of registration.
