Cob Garden Wall Workshop
Saturday, November 1, 2025
9am-5pm
Sunset District, San Francisco
Free!
Friends of CASBA: We built the High-Fiber Cob Garden Wall last month, now it’s time to plaster it! We’ll consider this to be the Brown Coat, also known as the Leveling Coat. The brown coat is very technical, as we are bringing the wall out from its current state of lumps and wobbles to create the shape, lines, and planes we want to see in the final product. Learn how to mix and apply this crucial coat, as well as a variety of techniques to help shape plaster. We’ll be using a traditional fermented clay horse-manure plaster using chopped straw and horse manure from a local stable. We’ll review the samples that we made in order to choose the best mix for this project, and we’ll also discuss mix design for increased durability of exterior clay plaster using plant-based polymers.
This workshop will be lead by avid natural builder from the East Bay, Darles Eaton. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments provided. Please register with the owner-builder, Shari: shasamsf@yahoo.comThanks, and hope to see you there!
